How do I know if this is worse than “normal?”

The Edinburgh Scale is often used by providers to assess whether a woman might have postpartum depression. We will discuss this screening model at your newborn appointments.

Some of the screening questions to consider are:

I have felt scared or panicky for no very good reason.

I have felt sad or miserable.

I have blamed myself unnecessarily when things went wrong.

The thought of harming myself has occurred to me.

I have been so unhappy that I have been crying quite often.

The light at the end of the sleep deprived tunnel

New moms almost always ask, “when will I feel like myself again?”  This varies from woman to woman but the return of the first menstrual cycle is the first sign that your hormones have normalized.  It is typical for for non breastfeeding moms to see the period return six to eight weeks after delivery.  Breastfeeding moms may not cycle until after weaning.
